Mouthguards

Safety First

Every parent is worried about their child's safety when playing sport and even experienced sportsmen and women can have sporting accidents. When it comes to teeth, prevention is better than cure.

Many costly procedures could be avoided with the use of a custom made mouthguard. Mouthguards are dental appliances that have several vital functions. Mouthguards protect your teeth and gums from damage due to trauma. They also protect your jaw joints from trauma and minimise damage to the brain and brain stem from twisting forces generated during an accident.

To be effective, mouthguards have to be carefully constructed by a qualified laboratory so they fit perfectly. For this reason we only recommend and fit custom made mouthguards that are individualised to the person using them and to the sport they play.

There are many types of mouthguards to chose from depending on the age of the patient (primary school children to adults) and the type of activity it is to be used in (ranging from gymnastics to professional boxing).

We do not recommend boil and bite mouthguards as they do not provide any protection and can actually cause further harm in an accident.
